Staff and students enjoyed perfect weather on Friday March 17 for the Hallett Cove School R-12 Sports Day.

For the first time, Year 6 House Captains joined their Year 12 leaders to present their banners to the whole school assembly to start the day. These students led the whole school in their team chants and motivated participants prior to events commencing.

As usual the high school students participated in a variety of track, field and novelty events, all contributing to house points in competition for the Sports Day trophy.

The junior school introduced a number of new events this year where students were challenged to work together, as well as individually to contribute to the overall total of house points.

It was excellent to see so many students in their house colours and encouraging their team mates throughout the day.

The R-12 Relay was again a crowd favourite, with students from all year levels demonstrating their speed on the 100m track. Students were cheered on by supportive team mates, staff and parents in the final event of the day, before the presentation assembly.

Age champion medals were presented to one male and one female from each age group, who scored the most individual points throughout the track and field events.

Howchin looked a chance to defend their 2016 winners title but were just edged out by Sandison, much to the excitement of the yellow fans in the crowd. The winners’ trophy was presented to the Sandison House captains by special guest Kieran Modra.

Final Standings;

1st – Sandison              5787 points

2nd – Howchin              5630 points

3rd – Tate                     5355 points

4th – Cooper                5226 points

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to students, staff and parents for making the day such a success and supporting such an exciting whole school event.
